Kim Atkins - Her Story
It started with a lump. During the last year of her college education, Kim discovered a lump in her left breast. Seeking medical attention, Kim went through several tests and mammograms. Then, Kim was sent for a biopsy. The biopsy results diagnosed Kim with Stage
4 breast cancer. She was only 23 years old.
Choosing to undergo a radical mastectomy, chemotherapy,
and radiation, Kim utilized modern medicine and a positive attitude. And she beat the odds, forcing her breast cancer into remission.
Kim Atkins - Wife & Mother
On December 7, 1990 Kim married her childhood sweetheart, Benny Atkins. While married, Kim continued
her education and became a certified teacher. She began teaching 6th grade at Memorial
Middle School, the local middle school in Conyers, GA, in 1997.
Wishing to grow their family, Kim consulted with her physicians
and ask about having a child. She had been cancer free for five years. The Doctor's gave the go-ahead. On July 10, 1995, Kim gave birth to, Abbey, a healthy girl named.
Sadly, only two months later, Kim found another lump in her right breast. Again, the test results came back as Stage 4 breast cancer. As Kim and her family battled with breast cancer, they all carried about their daily lives as normal. Kim loved and cared for Abbey. And, Kim continued to teach. Kim even taught classes up until two weeks prior to her death on October 5, 1999.
Kim Atkins - Remembered
Kim will always be remembered. She will be remembered as a great mother, wife, daughter, cousin, aunt, teacher
